PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for synthesizing ethanol by vapor phase hydration reaction of ethylene in which both conversion and selectivity are excellent and deterioration is not caused in even continuous use for a long period. SOLUTION: Tungsten, phosphorus and silicon are the essential active ingredients of the catalyst and these are contained at the rate shown in 0.1<=γW<=0.95, 0.05<=γP<=0.96, 0.005<=γSi<=0.8 (wherein, γW, γP and γSi show composition mole fraction for total of elements excepting oxygen constituting the active ingredients of the catalyst). The catalyst is used for synthesizing ethanol by vapor phase hydration reaction of ethylene. |
