PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare the subject cosmetics having a good extensibility on hairs, not having stickiness, giving hairs gloss and having good set preservation and storage stability, by including a specific thickening copolymer, an alkaline substance and a film-forming polymeric compound. SOLUTION: The cosmetics are prepared by including (A) a copolymer obtained by aqueous emulsion copolymerization of a monomer system comprising 1-25 wt.% methylsuccinate of formula I [(x) is 1-150; (y) is 0-50; R is a 5-30C alcoxy or the like, or a sorbitan fatty acid ester of formula II ((p), (q), (r) and (s) are each an integer and the total of them is 0-100; R1 is H or COR2 (R2 is a 5-30C alkyl)] and 10-90 wt.% non-ionic copolymerizableα,β-ethylenic usaturated monomer of formula CH2 =CYZ (Y is H or the like; Z is CN or the like), (B) an alkaline substance and (C) a film-forming polymeric compound.
