PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an orientation-type ion exchange membrane stably giving an ion conductivity greater than that of a perfluoro(alkyl)sulfonic acid membrane, by comprising an ion exchange resin which is copolymerized with vinyl monomers of a membrane matrix part, an ion exchange part, and an orientation part in a specific ration and has a specific degree of polymerization. SOLUTION: A membrane comprises an ion exchange resin which is of the formula (wherein R1 is a membrane matrix part; R2 is an ion exchange part; R3 is an orientation part; X is 1-50; Y is 0.1-20; Z is 0.02-10; and (n) as a degree of polymerization is 10-1,000) and which is copolymerized with vinyl monomers chemically bonded with 3 kinds of low-mol.-wt. parts of the R1, R2, and R3. R1 is a hydrophobic functional group and has a carbon number of pref. 1-20. An R3 -bearing vinyl monomer is selected from aromatic vinyl monomers (vinyl naphthalene, vinyl anthracene, vinyl carbazole, or the like.) having a planer structure (mesogen group) and being capable of forming a self-oriented phase in the hydrophobic phase when a hydrophobic phase and a hydrophilic phase coexist at the same time. |
