PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a dielectric ceramic excellent in temp. characteristics of the dielectric constant, enabling the use of a base metal as an internal electrode material and capable of firing in a reducing atmosphere by adding a sintering aid to a compound oxide contg. Ba, Ca, Ti, Mg and Mn and firing them. SOLUTION: A compd. represented by the formula Ba1-x Cax O}TiO2 and having <=0.03 wt.% preferably <=0.02 wt.% alkali metal oxide content and 0.1-0.8 μm average particle diameter is wet-mixed with an Mg compd. and an Mn compd., 100 pts.wt. of the resultant compsn. is blended with 0.2-5.0 pts.wt. SiO2 - base sintering aid and the blend is sintered at a temp. of <=1,250 deg.C to obtain the objective dielectric ceramic represented by the formula Ba1-x Cax O}m TiO2 +αMgO+βMnO (where 0.001<=α<=0.05, 0.001<=β<=0.025, 1.000<m<=1.035 and 0.02<=x<=0.15). This dielectric ceramic does not cause remarkable grain growth in firing and is excellent in temp. characteristics of the electric constant. |
