PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an inexpensive filtering and separating device operated over a long period without any repairs, easily purifying waste water even when the separating action of a thin-membrane element is hindered or the element is clogged, consuming only slight energy and easily assembled. SOLUTION: A liq. fluid medium rich in foreign matter is filtered and separated by the filtering and separating device 10 using a thin-membrane separating body 12 under the principle of ultrafiltration. The fluid medium 11 is supplied to the filtering and separating device 10 and separated into the residue 13 rich in foreign matter and the permeated material 14 poor in foreign matter. The permeated material 14 is discharged outside the device 10 from at least one outlet 15. At least one thin-membrane module 19 is laid in the flow direction 16 of the medium 11 between the two holding elements 17 and 18 arranged away from each other to form the thin-membrane separating body 12.
