<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject resin having a specific structural viscosity index and a specified content or below of a phenol remaining in the resin, excellent in thermal stability, improved in resistance to wet heat deterioration and useful for blow molded containers such as a bottle or a cup, illumination globes, panels for copiers or OA equipment, profile extrusion for houses, or the like. SOLUTION: This polycarbonate resin having >=1.36 structural viscosity index and <=10 ppm content of a dihydric phenol remaining in the resin is obtained. A high-molecular weight polycarbonate resin or a branched polycarbonate resin having 70,000-200,000 viscosity-average molecular weight is cited as the resin. The resin is obtained by reacting the dihydric phenol (e.g. hydroquinone) with a carbonate precursor (e.g. phosgene) in the presence of an acid binder (e.g. sodium hydroxide) and an organic solvent (e.g. methylene chloride) using a catalyst (e.g. triethylamine) at 0-40 deg.C for 10 min to 5 h in the case of a solution method.</p> |
