PRODUCTION OF OXAZOLIDINONE COMPOUND

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide both a method for selectively producing a trans-1- halo-2-indanol compound and a method for producing an indanoxazolidinone compound. SOLUTION: A cis-1,2-indene oxide (may be a racemic modification or an optically active substance) of formula I is reacted with a halide of formula II; MXn (M is a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal element or an alkaline earth metal; X is a halogen atom; (n) is an integer of 1 or 2) and subjected to a ring closure reaction to give a trans-1-halo-2-indanol compound of formula III (X is the halogen atom; the OH group and the X group are in a trans configuration. The compound of formula III is further reacted with a cyanate compound of formula IV; ROCN (R is an alkali metal or ammonium) to produce an indanoxazolidinone of formula V (may be a racemic modification or an optically active substance).
