PRODUCTION OF ETHER-CARBOXYLATE SALT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing low-cost ether-carboxylate salt in which the recovery from the reaction system is used as a source for supplying the catalyst. SOLUTION: The objective ether-carboxylate salt is produced by allowing an organic compound bearing hydroxyl groups to react with a carboxyl group- bearing unsaturated organic compound or an epoxy compound in the presence of a catalyst containing a rare-earth element in an aqueous medium of >=6 pH. After the reaction, the reaction mixture is mixed with an alkaline carbonate salt whereby the rare earth metal is separated and recovered from the reaction mixture in the form of its carbonate form.
