PURPOSE:To retard the penetration of a silver ion onto the anode side to increase storage performance by placing a viscous liquid layer obtained by dispersing trivalent chromium oxide in alkali hydroxide solution on the side between a separator and a cathode mix or an anode gel. CONSTITUTION:A viscous liquid layer 26 is placed between a separator 14 and an anode gel 16. The viscous liquid is prepared by dispersing trivalent chromium oxide in a viscous alkali hydroxide solution containing carboxymethylcellulose or polyacrylic acid. When a silver ion produced by dissolution of silver oxide in a cathode mix 12 penetrates in the gel 16 through the separator 14, the contact of the silver ion with zinc is disturbed by the layer 26 to prevent internal short circuit. By preventing internal short circuit caused by the penetration of silver ion, storage performance of a battery is increased. |
