A method of performing local termination of a call to a called mobile station (MS) (50) in a radio telecommunications network. Whenever a mobile switching center (MSC) (31) receives either a routing request invoke message (46) from a home location register (HLR) (32), a page response (56) during intersystem paging with a bordering visited MSC (V-MSC) (33), or an unsolicited page response (74), the MSC determines whether it is the originating MSC (O-MSC) (31) for the call. If so, the MSC routes the call locally to the called MS (50). If the O-MSC is capable of handling IS-41C local termination parameters, the O-MSC sends the local termination parameter in response messages to the HLR or a bordering visited MSC (V-MSC) to indicate that the call is being routed locally. If the O-MSC is not capable of handling IS-41C local termination parameters, the O-MSC sends a local routing number to the HLR or the V-MSC to indicate that the call is being routed locally. |
