PURPOSE:To enable efficient printing on horizontally opened type passbooks, vertically opened type passbooks and other various business forms by an extremely simple platen mechanism, by a construction wherein a vertical movement of a platen guide causes first, second and third platens to clamp a printing medium between them and a paper guide for pressing a printing surface. CONSTITUTION:A printing head 12 prints in a line direction on a medium 1 placed on a platen 13 while maintaining a fixed gap between the head and a paper guide 11. Three split platens 13a-13c into which the platen 11 is split are pressed by a platen guide 14 through compression springs 16a-16f so that the medium is pressed and clamped by the split platens against a paper guide 11. The springs 16a-16f are given desired displacements so that the medium 1 is clamped by the platens 13a-13c with desired pressures according to the thicknesses of a left part and a right part of the medium. Particularly the spring 16d is so displaced that the platen 13b corresponding to a binding part of the medium sufficiently absorb the back ridge of the binding part, whereby the medium is clamped by uniform flat surfaces with uniform pressures for printing on the medium 1b, 1c. |
