To accommodate variations and sudden changes in power to one of two input shafts (1), two gears (10) are mounted with axial freedom but secured in rotation to their drive shafts (9). By action of the compensating linkage (13) on the bearing supports (14) the conical helical gears (2) are firmly meshed with output drive gears (3).Clutches (8) release the drive from input shafts (1) to drive shafts (9) in the event of input power failure. A separate output shaft (7) is driven through intermediate gears (6) engaging both input drive shafts (9)
