PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate the larger return force of a shift lever with smaller exciting force by journalling a plate member with a rocking shaft arranged at the prescribed position in the shift direction for the shift lever, and exciting the plate member with an exciting means arranged on the opposite side to the rocking shaft. SOLUTION: This select return mechanism adapted to a manual shift transmission having an H-type shift pattern including five forward stages and one reverse stage, for example, is used to return a shift lever 1 to the neutral position, and it has a support base 7. A rocking plate 17 is journalled to a support plate 16 fixed to a boss section 7a extended from the support base 7 by bolts 20, and one end section of a plate spring 18 bent into an L-shape is fixed to the support plate 16 by a screw. The other end section 18a of the plate spring 18 is invariably kept in contact with an edge section 17A of the rocking plate 17 on the opposite side to a rocking shaft 21, and the rocking plate 17 is excited in the returning direction to the neutral position.
