PURPOSE:To obtain a superconducting wire of high critical current density by arranging a metal pipe filled with a superconductor or the precursor thereof and an oxidizing agent discharging oxygen via decomposition due to heating in heat treatment respectively in a metal sheath and then applying diameter reduction and heat treatment processes thereto. CONSTITUTION:In the manufacture of an oxide superconducting wire comprising a metal sheath with the inside thereof fitted with an oxide superconductor of A-B-Cu-O or A-B-Cu-O-X system (A stands for group IIIa elements in the periodic table including La, Y, Ce, Yb, Er, Ho and Dy, B for group IIa elements in the periodic table including Ba and Sr, and X for an halogen element including F and CI), superconducting powder or temporarily baked raw powder 10 is filled in a silver pipe and further reduced in diameter, thereby obtaining a wire 11. On the other hand, there is prepared a silver pipe 13 filled with a powder, grain or solid oxidizing agent 12 decomposed and discharging oxygen due to high temperature heating during heat treatment. Then, a plurality of wires 11 are grouped around the pipe 13 and inserted in a metal pipe 14 of silver as one. And the whole is reduced to a desired wire diameter and then subjected to heat treatment. |
