摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the effective reflectivity of light and to perform high contrast display by providing an optical phase difference plate in an optical path between an optical reflector and a guest host type liquid crystal cell. SOLUTION: This guest host type liquid crystal display device of a reflection type is constituted of the guest host type liquid crystal cell 1, the optical phase difference plate 2 and a mirror reflector 3 provided with the mirror reflection condition of reflecting the light passed through the guest host type liquid crystal cell 1. At the time, the optical phase difference plate 2 is provided in the optical path between the mirror reflector 3 and the guest host type liquid crystal cell 1. It is preferable that the retardation of the optical phase difference plate 2 is >=10 nm and <=500 nm. For instance, the phase difference plate of a retardation value 40 nm is provided so as to make the optical axis direction be at the angle of 45 degrees to the rubbing direction of the back surface substrate of the liquid crystal cell. It is desirable that the liquid crystal layer of the guest host type liquid crystal cell 1 is provided with a twist angle (twist angle of a liquid crystal molecule between a counter substrate for constituting the liquid crystal cell) equal to or more than 180 degrees.
