PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a two-dimensional solid-state image pickup device, which has adequately wide dynamic range by connecting a 1st electrode to one end of a capacitor, connecting a 2nd electrode to an output signal line and connecting a gate electrode to a row selection line of a matrix. SOLUTION: When light is made incident on a photodiode PD, a current Ip that is proportional to the incidence quantity is generated and undergoes logarithmic conversion in a 1st MOS transistor Tr1, and gate voltage VG turns into a voltage that is in proportion to 1n (Ip). A capacitor C is charged through a 2nd MOS transistor Tr2 and voltage Vo which is proportional to 1n∫(Ip) dt occurs in the capacitor C. T is time and when integration is finished, high voltage is applied to a row selection line Lvsel and a 3rd MOS transistor Tr3 is turned on. Integrated charge is read through the transistor Tr3 and an output signal line Lsig according to a read operation of a horizontal scan circuit.
