PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an automatic dispenser and a method, in which the placement mistake of a dispensing tip can be detected surely. SOLUTION: In a dispensing method, a dispensing operation is performed while dispensing tips 4 which are placed on lower end parts of dispensing nozzles 3 so as to be freely detachable are being replaced as required. In the dispensing method, a tip rack 11 in which a plurality of unused dispensing tips 4 are arranged is placed on a placement stage 10, and the dispensing tips 4 are placed on the dispensing nozzles 3. After that, the existence of the dispensing tips 4 remaining on the tip rack 11 without being placed on the dispensing nozzles 3 is detected by a detection part 16 while lower end parts of the dispensing tips 4 are used as parts, to be detected, by a detection part 12 provided with a light shielding optical sensor. Thereby, at an early stage before shifting to the suction and discharge operation of a liquid, the existence of the placement mistake of the dispensing tips 4 can be detected surely. |
