Protein supplement contains at least 25 (preferably 50 or more, especially 80)% protein having a tryptophan (Trp)/neutral amino acid (AAN) ratio of at least 0.06.- ACTIVITY - Seventeen healthy women volunteers who suffered from various pre-menstrual symptoms as listed below were put on a controlled diet and given food supplements having a Trp/AAN ratio of 0.08. They then reported their symptoms under the following categories: 1. Mood changes, 2. Sleep difficulties, 3. Feelings of depression, 4. Bulimic tendencies, desire for sugar, 5. Asthenia, fatigue, loss of liveliness, 6. Feeling of weight gain, 7. Feeling of swelling, edema, 8. Migraine, headache, 9. Intestinal disorders, 10.Digestive disorders, 11. Decrease in libido, 12. Heavy limbs, 13.Feelings of confusion 14. Memory difficulties and 15. Difficulties in concentration.- The intensity of these symptoms were scored, and the results are shown in the figure in which the triangular marker is the intensity with the supplements, and the square marker that without the supplements.
