PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to heat a minute area and to record high density information capable of detecting a near field beam and reproducing, by radiating heat from the tip of a probe generating or dispersing the near field beam and made close to and scanning, to a recording medium with a thin film formed on the surface whose characteristic is changed by heating. SOLUTION: A cantilever type optical probe 1 introduces/converges a laser beam from a heating light source 4 to a minute opening 2 of a dielectric tip from the rear through a mirror 5 and a convergent optical system 6 to generate the near field beam. The surface of the recording medium 3 forming a phase transition film recording the information by locally heating the surface is incorporated in the near field beam are. Then, a control mechanism 10 controls a probe displacement detection mechanism 7, a scan mechanism 8, a feedback mechanism 9 and a rotation mechanism 11 to rotate the recording medium 3, make the probe 1 close to the prescribed position of the recording medium 3 and scan it.
