The invention relates to a container for mailing items in a sorting device for controlled distribution of a flat mailing item into non-moveable sorting containers. The inventive container comprises a rigidly mounted wall section and a wall section that is moveably mounted at the front in the direction of conveyance, inclined in the opposite direction to the direction of conveyance and provided with a sliding component. The sliding component can vibrate fully or partially, whereby the front parts of the mailing items are given momentum when they slide out as a result of the vibration of the sliding component that is caused by the opening of the moveable wall, thereby preventing torque that is created by gravity and causes short items to topple over. The duration of the vibration is at least long enough for the appropriate short item to leave the sliding component before the next vibration movement is directed at the mail items.
