The appliance has a hydraulic press and a press tool. A heat exchanger circuit (13) is connected to the hydraulic fluid tank (14) of the press, for temperature equalization of the press tool. It also has a unit (15,20,21,25,26) to preheat the hydraulic fluid in a tank esp. to a temperature of between 30 and 40 deg C, and to maintain the tool temperature approx. at a level above room temperature. The unit incorporates a valve, esp. a proportional control valve (20) to adjust the flow volume in the heat exchanger circuit.
