The suction pressure regulation method is used for a pump with a variable drive regulated depending on the suction pressure or a given control signal, with measurement of the pressure or the control signal for different drive revolutions, for determining a minimal value for the suction pressure with the least end vacuum and subsequent adjustment of the drive to the corresponding optimal revolutions. An Independent claim for a membrane or piston pump, or a combined membrane/piston pump is also included.
