PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method useful for automating the work of searching a photograph or another image embedded inside a larger image. SOLUTION: By finding an end part curve for approximating the periphery of an embedded image and processing the density distribution of the end part curve by taking a rectangle of the embedded image or a rectangle including the embedded image from the end part curve along two axes, both of the position and orientation of the embedded image are calculated. Thus, the positions of four corner parts of the embedded image in a rectangular shape are calculated, and it is possible to automatically segment and rotate the embedded image even in the case of viewing only less than all four corner parts. The rectangle including the image having the rectangle matched with the axis of the larger embedded image like the one formed in the case of scanning a small photograph on a flat head scanner can be calculated. Further, an operation is excellently performed not only for the image in the rectangular shape but also for the images provided with other boundary shapes such as a polygon, a circle and an ellipse, etc., including the image provided with an irregular shape. |
