A process for producing an extruded styrene resin foam which is highly friendly to the environment and has high heat-insulating properties and proper strength properties, characterized in that use is made of a foaming agent comprising, based on the total amount of the foaming agent, 40 to 85 wt.% of at least one ether selected from the group consisting of dimethyl ether, methyl ethyl ether, and diethyl ether and 15 to 60 wt.% of at least one saturated hydrocarbon selected from the group consisting of C3-5 saturated hydrocarbons, and that the foam is made to have a preferred cell structure, e.g., one having a specific cell shape or one where large and small cells coexist.
