The motor consists of an assembly (1) for compressing a driving gas, a second assembly (10) for expanding it, and a coupling (16) which enables the compression assembly shaft (17) to be driven by the expansion assembly shaft (15) with a speed ratio such that the scavenged volume per revolution by the compressor shaft is less than that for the expansion shaft. The gas passing between the compressor and expander is constantly heated in an internal combustion chamber (6) or by an external heat source, and the flow to the expansion chamber is interrupted in a cyclic manner by a distributor (11) to separate the expanded volumes.
