A mobile radio communication system in which UMTS and another system coexist and one superframe of UMTS includes idle slots for monitoring frequency components of the other system inserted at intervals corresponding both to time not greater than a half of one of the frames forming the superframe and to a predetermined number of such frames. Although UMTS and another system coexist, UMTS can monitor frequency components of the other and thus restric t the degradation of interleaving performance of compressed frames.
