<p>A pressure transformer (10) has an adjustable port plate (26) between the barrel (40) of the rotating cylinder block and the head block (28). The barrel (40) contains a plurality of cylinders (44) for the pistons (47). The cylinder ports (46) are shaped as protruding and indent circles along the circumference. Likewise the three arcuate slots (60, 62, 64) of the port plate (26) have leading (50) and trailing (52) edges each, whereby their shape and orientation correspond with the cylinder ports. The relative rotation between cylinder ports and port plate allows for communication between adjacent arcuate slots (60, 62, 64) because the land between the slots is smaller than the respective cylinder bore. During operation the adjustment of the port plate seals these communication passages and therefore reduces the energy losses occurring when discharging high pressure fluid through small openings.</p> |
