Image-making process for production of printing elements, especially printing plates for offset printing

An image-making process comprises (A) applying a mixture of a sol precursor and a liquid to a substrate as a thin film in the form of the required image or print and (B) removing the liquid to form an insoluble, crosslinked polymeric sol-gel matrix. An Independent claim is also included for a printing element made by this process.
