The method involves directing a water jet device (5) towards the surface of the layer type material. A constant water steam is directed towards the surface and the pressure in the jet is measured. A measurement device has a device (1) to ensure constant water supply and a device (6) to measure the pressure in the water jet. An Independent claim is made for a device (8) for feeding air into the water jet.
