A corrugated metallic tube, of similar configuration to a flexible expansion bellows, is used to separate hydrogen and its isotopes from gaseous mixtures; the mixture, at appropriate temperature and pressure, may be run on either the inside or the outside of the tube, and the hydrogen selectively diffuses through the tube wall. The tube may be of palladium, platinum, nickel, or palladium alloys with silver or copper, etc., and has a preferred maximum wall thickness of 0.1- 0.2 mm.
