<p>A locking apparatus (10) for locking a fifth wheel king pin (11) includes a cylindrically shaped lock body (22) that fits over the king pin (11) and covers it. A lateral passageway (30) through the locking body (22) receives a locking member (40) that includes a pair of shanks (35, 36) that fit the king pin (11) at annular shoulder portions (20, 21). The lateral passageway (30) has open end portions that communicate with the outer wall of the lock housing or lock body (22). End portions of the locking member (40) occupy the channel (30) at the openings to prevent a thief from gaining access to either end portion of the locking member (40) with a hammer, saw or torch.</p> |
