The method involves measuring an object shape distribution of a communications unit with integral antenna under investigation using a sensor for measuring a three-dimensional shape and measuring a scan distribution of complex interference data between a signal obtained with a scanning measurement antenna for measuring a two-dimensional distribution of an electromagnetic wave and a signal acquired with a measurement antenna, whose relative arrangement with respect to the measurement object is fixed, as a two-dimensional distribution of an electric or magnetic field, based on a movement with a predefined step size as a minimal movement unit. The superimposed distributions are displayed and a complex current distribution derived. The alignment capability is derived from the object shape distribution and complex current distribution. An Independent claim is also included for an method using the apparatus.
