A tape dispenser (20, 120) comprises a generally palm-sized housing (22) formed of a single piece of material. The housing (22) completely encloses a roll (24) of tape mounted within the housing (22) for rotation relative to the housing (22). The housing (22) comprises a body (28) enclosing the roll (24) of tape, an opening (30) in the body (28) for dispensing the tape (26), and a thumb-engageable cover (32) integrally formed with the body (28). The thumbengageable cover (32) is pivotable relative to the body (28) to open and close the opening (30). The cover (32) includes a cutter (e.g., cutting teeth (34)) for cutting pieces of tape (26) from the roll (24) of tape (26) as the cover (32) is moved to its closed position. Alternatively, cutting teeth (122, 124, 130) may be arranged along both the cover and the body of the housing so that a piece of tape may be cut from the roll by pulling the tape against either row of cutting teeth (122 or 124, 130). Methods of making and using the tape dispenser are also disclosed.
