A glass melting furnace lining material, comprising platinum or a platinum alloy with a low osmium impurity content, is new. A lining material, for a glass melting furnace, comprises platinum or a platinum alloy with an osmium impurity content of /}20 ppm. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) a glass melting furnace which is lined with the above material, at least at the parts in contact with molten glass; (ii) a process for producing glass products using refining/fine melting and homogenizing tanks and a molding unit which are lined with the above material; and (iii) a method of refining a platinum or a platinum alloy lining material by evaporation of osmium oxide.
