An isolated nucleic acid (A) for the Neisseria gonorrhoeae GC-3 sequence, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) oligonucleotides, containing a target binding sequence (TBS), that contain at least 10 consecutive nucleotides (nt) from (A); and (2) a primer set, for species-specific amplification of N. gonorrhoeae nucleic acid, that includes an oligonucleotide as the first primer;
