The valve operating device acts on two gas exchange valves by means of a camshaft via a bridging element (8) on the valve stems (6). This element is operated by a rod (13) in a boring (12) in the cylinder head (1). The ends (14, 16) of the rod are centered in borings (15, 17) which are both in the same workpiece, namely the cylinder head body (1), which also has valve guides (4) in it.
