A coagulant which is the reaction product of a trivalent metal salt, excludi ng chromium salts, an acid phosphorous compound and an aluminum hydroxy chlorid e, and a process for preparing such coagulant. This coagulant may be effectivel y used to remove suspended solids and various impurities in most water treatme nt applications.
