Stainless steel usable in storage containers, especially wine storage containers

An austenitic stainless steel sheet has a specified low surface roughness in the cold rolled condition. An austenitic stainless steel sheet has, in the cold rolled condition, a surface roughness (Ra) of 0.05-0.15 mu , as measured by AFM (atomic force microscope) over areas of 100 mu x 100 mu . An Independent claim is also included for production of the above sheet by subjecting an austenitic steel sheet of type 2B surface to cold rolling to cause grain flattening and grain boundary closure, the sheet surface having narrow shallow grain boundaries and flat grains without surface micro-roughness.
