A reagent for coagulating blood for measuring blood coagulation ability contains a coagulation factor activating substance (such as tissue thromboplastin, phospholipid or thrombin), calcium ions and a high molecular weight substance such as high molecular weight vinyl or high molecular weight polysaccharide. By adding a high molecular weight substance to the reagent, the turbidity change during blood coagulation is increased, and hence the change in the quantity of transmitted or scattered light is increased, thereby improving the measurement accuracy. Also, by adjusting the electric conductivity, pH and osmotic pressure to specified values, the turbidity change during blood coagulation may be further increased.

|
