The heads (9) of a video recorder are mounted on a rotating drum (8) that has an inset carrier (12) supported on bearings within the stationary element (2). Signals to and from the heads are transmitted across pairs of elements (3, 13). The electrical motor used to drive the unit is built-in and has a flat structure. A circuit plate (17) has a number of single electromagnets (18) on the stator assembly. A ring shaped permanent magnet (16) is mounted on the rotor. Small permanent magnets (19) provide pulse generation for speed regulation. ADVANTAGE - Results in drive of short axial length.
