An endoprosthesis (1) for the partial replacement of a hip bone has a shaft (2) on at least one side which grips the pieces of the bone (5). The outer of this shaft is provided with an annular groove (8) in the position (22) where the bone has been cut. This annular groove is formed between the wall (25) of the body of the shaft (2) and the neck (3) which joins the shaft to the ball end of the hip joint. The annular recess enables a very firm joint to be formed between the shaft and the surrounding bone. USE - Hip joint prosthesis.
