FIELD: motor road-building engineering, in particular, compaction of soil of road-bed, underlying layers of sand and rubble and pavements of concrete and asphalt concrete. SUBSTANCE: the method consists in ramming of material to be compacted constantly conveyed to the ramming member swinged relative to the layer to be compacted, with simultaneous holding of the latter from protrusion to the surface in the zone of action of the ramming member by means of a plate adjoining the ramming member. The plate adjoins the ramming member on a part of its perimeter. Ramming of material is carried out up to the moment of formation of a wave of protruded material before the ramming member on the side not adjoining the plate, after which the material to be compacted is continued to be conveyed forward under the ramming member, fed together with the plate along the layer to be compacted, provided the wave of protruded material remains intact.
