An apparatus and method for simulating a flame for a fireplace 1 comprises reflecting a light source 4 onto a viewer 7. Reflector 6 may comprise a multi-facet or wavelength sensitive mirror, a prism, holographic paper and may scatter light in curved or linear patterns. Light source 4 preferably comprises a plurality of grouped, electronically programmed, red, yellow, orange and blue coloured LED's 5 which simulate coal, wood or gas flames. Viewer 7 preferably comprises a vertical diffuser screen which can be opaque, semi-transparent or transparent. Light source 4, viewer 7 and reflector 6 may all be movably controlled. |
