PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymer with relatively low stereoregularlity and broad molecular weight distribution by polymerizing anα-olefin in the presence of a catalyst composed of a catalytic solid component essentially comprising magnesium, titanium, a halogen and an electron donor, an organoaluminum compound and a specific component. SOLUTION: The objective polymer is obtained by polymerizing anα-olefin in the presence of a catalyst composed of (A) a catalytic solid component essentially comprising magnesium, titanium, a halogen and an electron donor, (B) an organoaluminum compound component (pref. a trialkylaluminum) and (C) an organosilicon compound component of the formula (R is a 1-8C hydrocarbon) [e.g. methyl(hexamethyldisilazano)dimethoxysilane]. It is preferable that the component A is prepared by reaction between an aluminum halide and a silicon compound followed by reaction with a Grignard compound to effect solid deposition.
