PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crucible used for a melted metal (for example, cast iron), resisting to thermal shock and having good heat efficiency and excellent durability. SOLUTION: This crucible used for the melted metal is obtained by adding and kneading pitch and/or tar to a composition comprising (a) 35-80 wt.% of alumina, (b) 0.5-25 wt.% of silicon carbide, (c) 10-30 wt.% of scaly graphite, (d) 0.5-5 wt.% of expanded graphite and (e) 4-25 wt.% of boron carbide or metal silicon, molding the kneaded product (for example, cold hydrostatic pressure molding) and subsequently calcining the molded product in a reducing atmosphere. |
