PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a UV light absorbent having good heat resistance and scarcely changing with time. SOLUTION: This styrenic polymer type ultravioret light absorbent consists mainly of a polymer obtained by reacting (A) an aromatic polycarboxylic acid anhydride with (B) a styrenic polymer having a weight-average mol.wt. of >=600 in the ratio of 0.01-5 moles of the acid anhydride groups of the component A to 1 mole of the benzene ring of the component B. The styrenic polymer B is preferably obtained by polymerizing a monomer component containing at least 10 mol.% of a styrenic monomer.
