The proposal is for a device for the motorised movement of a safety belt in a motor vehicle from a storage to a ready position. The device comprises a rack (30) meshing with a pinion (29) drivable in both directions having at one of its end sections a component (20) loosely holding the safety belt which lies on an internal part of the motor vehicle with the safety belt in the storage position. A particularly fitting-friendly device of this kind is obtained if the component (20) can be moved out of a position of rest in relation to the rack (30) towards the ready position against spring pressure.
