The adaptive speed control has a controller (1) which alters the speed of the vehicle in response to information gathered by detectors (12-21) which monitor surrounding traffic and road conditions, maintaining a safe distance to a target vehicle. The controller can act on the brakes, gearbox or throttle. The control law used by the controller is adapted by surrounding conditions. |
