PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new compound useful as an asymmetric synthesis reagent for the selective production of an optically active compound in high yield. SOLUTION: The objective compound is expressed by formula I (R<1> and R<2> are each an alkyl; R<3> is an alkyl or the like; R<4> is H or the like; the mark *represents the position of asymmetric carbon), e.g. (4S,5S)-4,5-diphenyl-2-[(1 S)-1-benzyl-2-hydroxyethyl]imino-1,3-dimethylimidazolidine. The compound of formula I can be produced from an optically active 1,2-diphenyl-1,2- ethanediamine by successively carrying out a cyclization reaction using urea and water, a reaction with an alkyl halide and a reaction with a halogenation agent and reacting the obtained compound of formula II (X is a halogen) [e.g. (4S,5S)-2-chloro-4,5-diphenyl-1,3-dimethylimidazolinium chloride] with an amino alcohol of formula III (e.g. S-phenylalaninol). |
