The compander circuit (20) has an estimator circuit (23) that determines the level of coupling and the delay time, together with characteristic line circuit (21) and multiplier (24). Both the estimator and characteristic line circuit have a number of multiplexer-buffer-demultiplexer stages. A modulo N counter (26) completes the compander circuit.
